Savoring Health

I am a 21-year-old college student. In spring of 2011 I found myself at the largest I have ever been: 5'3" and 165 lbs. At that moment I decided to start making changes.

TO DO: decrease my portions, eat better quality food, stay active

NEVER: deprive myself of enjoying life, lose weight in an unhealthy way

Day XII: What are your friend’s eating habits like?

I have some friends who are relatively healthy without even thinking about it. They don’t make an effort to do it, but they were raised to eat well so they automatically do.

I have other friends who just don’t eat well at all. They eat a lot of fatty, high-calorie foods and too many sweets, then they occasionally eat a little fruit or a salad to create a “balanced diet”. It drives me crazy because they will all talk about each other. Friend 1 will talk about how disgusting it is that Friend 2 is eating a waffle with syrup for dinner while she eats fried chicken dipped in ranch or something like that. Instead of making real changes, they just compare themselves to others and decide they’re ok as long as someone else is worse.

I really don’t have any friends that think about nutrition or are dieting or counting calories or anything like that… or if they do, they don’t make it obvious.
