Savoring Health

I am a 21-year-old college student. In spring of 2011 I found myself at the largest I have ever been: 5'3" and 165 lbs. At that moment I decided to start making changes.

TO DO: decrease my portions, eat better quality food, stay active

NEVER: deprive myself of enjoying life, lose weight in an unhealthy way

SW: 165

Day XIII: Is your diet ever negatively influenced by your friends? Do they pressure/tempt you to eat unhealthy food?

In general, no. Sometimes I’ll have a moment where something my friends are eating/ordering/talking about seems really tempting, but I remind myself that I’ve chosen a different lifestyle than them and I don’t want to be like them (in terms of diet and weight) so I can easily resist. The only time they might be able to tempt me with unhealthy food is if I’m drinking a lot (combination of drunk cravings and impaired judgment), but that doesn’t happen often.

However, the one person who always drags me into unhealthy eating is my best friend. First of all, he’s a guy, so he eats way more than me and tries to make me keep up, telling me I’m “wasting away”. Secondly, he doesn’t eat junk food like fries and chips… he’s a total food snob and his mom is a great cook, so I actually really really really want to eat it. Usually, I end up giving in a little and making up for it by working out or eating lighter the next day.
