Savoring Health

I am a 21-year-old college student. In spring of 2011 I found myself at the largest I have ever been: 5'3" and 165 lbs. At that moment I decided to start making changes.

TO DO: decrease my portions, eat better quality food, stay active

NEVER: deprive myself of enjoying life, lose weight in an unhealthy way

Day XVIII: Do you have to eat any meals with your family? Are they for or against your diet?

I am at school most of the year, so I don’t eat any meals with my family durin that time. When I am at home for breaks, I take care of my own breakfast and lunch unless we are out, and I cook dinner myself most of the time for the whole family. I simply make substitutions to account for my diet and their taste (e.g. we both have fish, but they have chips while I have vegetables on the side).

My family’s attitude toward my diet is supportive but not helpful. They are happy for me, but they don’t really understand how it works, though I sometimes try to explain. Sometimes they think I’m being too picky, but in the end they figure it’s best to just let me do what I want. Sometimes they are kind of annoying, saying “it’s great that you’re being so healthy” and 5 minutes later “I brought you some chocolate cake!” but they don’t mean to be saboteurs and will generally go along with my requests.
